Consult your doctor before taking Cosome MSR tablet

1. If you regularly drink alcohol. Regular consumption of alcohol adversely affects liver function and may increase the risk of liver toxicity from products containing paracetamol.
2. If you have severe kidney disease.
3. If you have intestinal obstruction
4. If you have epilepsy
5. If you have blocked arteries or veins (occlusive vascular disease)
6. If you have bronchitis, bronchiectasis, emphysema or asthma or have had a cough for a few weeks or a cough with a lot of mucus (phlegm).
7. If you are or have ever been addicted to opioids, alcohol, prescriptions medicines, or illegal drugs.
8. If you have previously suffered from withdrawal symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, shaking or sweating, when you have stopped taking alcohol or drugs.
9. If you have been told by your doctor that you are a slow metabolizer of CYP2D6.
10. If you are taking medicines such as certain antidepressants or antipsychotics this medicine may interact with those medicines and you may experience mental status changes (e.g. agitation, hallucinations, coma), and other effects such as body temperature above 38°C, increase in heart rate, unstable blood pressure, and exaggeration of reflexes, muscular rigidity, lack of coordination and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea).
11. If you are taking any other cough and cold medicines.
12. Sympathomimetic drugs (stimulants or appetite suppressants, amphetamine-like psychostimulants or drugs used to treat congestion and asthma).
13. Antihistamines (drugs used to treat the symptoms of allergic reactions)
14. If you have diabetes
15. If you are taking betablockers or other antihypertensive drugs (drugs that reduce blood pressure).
16. you are taking drugs that may increase blood pressure.
17. you are taking cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin).
18. If you are elderly

A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious condition. If cough persists for more than 7 days, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or persistent headache, a physician should be consulted.

Patient should stop the treatment immediately if symptoms of progressive skin rash occur.

Special care should be taken when using chlorpheniramine maleate Cosome MSR tablet in children and the elderly as they are more prone to developing neurological anticholinergic effects such as retention of urine, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, increased heart rate, and decreased sweating etc.
You should not drink alcohol whilst taking Cosome MSR tablet. Taking this medicine with alcohol can increase your chances of getting side effects.

Other medicines and Cosome MSR tablet 
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines that you buy without a prescription and herbal medicines. Cosome MSR tablet can affect the way that some medicines work and some medicines can have an effect on Cosome MSR tablet.

Talk to your doctor if:

1. you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines as many other drugs can affect liver function and may increase the risk of liver toxicity.
2. you are taking probenecid (used to treat gout), you are taking isoniazid and rifampicin (antituberculous treatment).
3. Sedatives (drugs used to treat anxiety and tension). Hypnotics (sleeping tablets including barbiturates)
4. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (Moclobemide), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), or other medications for depression (Fluxetine, Paroxetine, sertraline, bupropion, amitriptyline) psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease,
5. Medicines used to treat epilepsy/seizures e.g. Phenytoin or lamotrigine.
6. Antipsychotics (drugs used to treat mood disorders such as haloperidol, thioridazine, perphenazine).
7. Anti-arrhythmic agents (drugs used to treat irregular heart beats such as amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine and flecainide).
8. Anti-fungals (terbinafine)
9. Sympathomimetic drugs (stimulants or appetite suppressants or drugs used to treat congestion and asthma).
10. Antihypertensives (drugs used to treat high blood pressure such as guanethidine, methyldopa, adrenergic neurone blockers, debrisoquine, bretylium and betanidine).
11. Cardiac glycosides (drugs used to control heart rhythms or contractions such as digoxin)
12. Ergot alkaloids (drugs used to treat migraine such as ergotamine and methysergide)
13. Anticoagulants to thin your blood e.g. warfarin
14. Some antibiotics e.g. chloramphenicol
15. Medicines to control nausea and vomiting e.g. metoclopramide, domperidone
16. Medicines to control high lipid levels e.g. colestyramine

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

1. It is not recommended to use Cosome MSR tablet during pregnancy
2. It is not recommended to use Cosome MSR tablet if you are breast-feeding

Driving and using machines

This medicine may cause drowsiness and affect your ability to drive. If affected, do not drive or operate heavy machinery. Avoid alcohol.

Precautions

Like all medicines, COSOME A EXPECTORANT can cause side-effects in some individuals.

There is a small risk of allergy and skin reactions. If you experience allergic reactions (e.g. skin rashes, itching, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing) or skin reactions such as skin swellings or rash, stop treatment immediately and contact your doctor.

Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 patient) – Headache, uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body

Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 but less than 1 in 100 patient) - Fast, pounding, heartbeat, muscle spasm*

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data) - Anaphylactic reactions including anaphylactic shock, angioedema (rapidly developing swelling of the skin, chest tightness), Sleep disturbances, agitation, restlessness, changed taste, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, fainting, Nausea, mouth and throat irritation, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, oral and pharyngeal hypoesthesia, dry mouth and dry throat, rash, pruritis, difficulty in breathing

*A few patients feel tense; this is also due to the effects on skeletal muscle.

Each 5 ml (One teaspoonful approx.) contains: 
Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide IP - 10 mg 
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride IP - 5.0 mg 
Chlorpheniramine Maleate IP - 2.0 mg 
In flavoured syrupy base - q.s.

Colour used: Sunset Yellow FCF

Excipients: Sucrose IP, Methylparaben IP, Propylparaben IP, Sorbitol Solution (70 %), (Non-Crystallizing) IP, Propylene Glycol IP, Citric Acid Monohydrate IP,Sodium Citrate IP, Sunset yellow FCF Supra IH, Honey special (Sonarex) IH, Di-Sodium Edetate IP, Purified Water IP Contains 5g of sucrose per dose of 10ml syrup. 

This should be considered in patients with Diabetes Mellitus contains Sorbitol 350 mg per dose of 10 ml syrup. Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to some sugars or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI), a rare genetic disorder in which a person cannot break down fructose, talk to your doctor before you (or your child) take or receive this medicine

What you need to know before you take COSOME COUGH SYRUP 

Do not take COSOME COUGH SYRUP:

1. If you are allergic to Chlorpheniramine Maleate or any other ingredients of COSOME cough syrup
2. If you suffer from lung disease 
3. If you have diabetes 
4. If you have a phaeochromocytoma (rare tumour that affects your heart rate and blood pressure) 
5. If you are being treated for a thyroid disorder 
6. If you have narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) 
7. If you have high blood pressure or heart disease. 
8. If you have prostate problems (enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine) 
9. If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (drugs used to treat depression and anxiety such as fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline) 
10. Not for use In children under 6 years of age

Important Info

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this webpage or as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. 

Adults and children 12 years and older: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) using the measure cup provided. Repeat 4-6 hours as needed 

Children (6-12 year): 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) using the measure cup provided. Repeat every 4-6 hours as needed 

COSOME COUGH SYRUP is not recommended in children < 6 years old. 

Do not take more than 3 doses in 24 hours 

Do not exceed the stated dose 

COSOME COUGH SYRUP is for oral use only. 

COSOME COUGH SYRUP can be taken with or without food. 

Duration of treatment with COSOME COUGH SYRUP is determined individually depending on the indication and type of disease. 

Long-term use of COSOME COUGH SYRUP is possible only after consulting your doctor. 

If you take more COSOME COUGH SYRUP dose than you should seek medical attention urgently. If you take more of this medicine than you should, you may experience the following symptoms: nausea and vomiting, involuntary muscle contractions, slurred speech, irritability, restlessness, increased heart beats, hypertension, difficulty in voiding urine, dry mouth, increased thirst, confusion, somnolence, disturbances in consciousness, involuntary & rapid eye movements, facial flushing, coordination disorders, psychosis with visual hallucinations, and hyperexcitability. Other symptoms in case of massive overdose may be coma, severe breathing problems, and convulsions. Contact your doctor or hospital straight away if you experience any of the above symptoms. 

If you forget to take COSOME COUGH SYRUP dose 
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Rare (may affect more than 1 in 10000 but less than 1 in 1000 patient) – stomach upset 

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data) - feeling unusually tired, unexpected bruising or bleeding and getting more infections (such as colds) than normal, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing. Allergic reactions including skin rashes such as hives (which may be severe and include blistering or peeling of the skin) and itching, decreased appetite, confusion, excitation, irritability, nightmares, depression, nervousness, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, blurred vision, ringing or buzzing noise in ear, a fast or irregular heartbeat or an increased awareness of the heartbeat (palpitations), vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, indigestion, jaundice, urinary retention, muscular twitching, muscle weakness, chest tightness

What is COSOME COUGH SYRUP and what is it used for?

COSOME COUGH SYRUP is a medicine which is used to help relieve dry coughs and related congestion symptoms. The syrup contains Chlorpheniramine Maleate which is an antihistamine that helps stop sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride which is a decongestant that unblocks stuffy noses and Dextromethorphan hydrobromide which is an antitussive to help stop coughing. The medicine is for use in adults and children aged 6 years and above.

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.This is a Prescription product.

The recommended dose in adults, including the elderly and adolescents aged 12 years and over, is 1 tablet (20 mg) a day. The tablet is for oral use.

These tablets should not be taken with food or with grapefruit juice or other fruit juices, as this will decrease the effect of Bilastine. To avoid this, you can:

1. Take the tablet and wait for one hour before taking food or fruit juice
2. If you have taken food or fruit juice, wait for two hours before taking the tablet.
3. Swallow your tablet with a glass of water.
4. Regarding the duration of treatment, your physician will determine for how long you should take COSOME®AR.
5. Do not take more COSOME®AR than the stated dose. If your symptoms do not improve, consult your doctor.
6. Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age or with a body weight below 20 kg as insufficient data are available.
7. If you (or anyone else) have taken too many COSOME®AR tablets, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital, even if there are no symptoms. Please remember to take this medicine pack or this webpage with you.

If you forget to take COSOME AR

1. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
2. If you forget to take your dose on time, take it as soon as possible, and then go back to your regular dosing schedule.

5. If you have had a cough for more than one week or you have a recurrent cough.
6. If you have a persistent cough that may be caused by asthma or other respiratory conditions.
7. If you have asthma or suffer from serious asthma attacks.
8. If you have a cough which brings up a lot of mucus (phlegm).
9. If you have or have had liver or kidney disease
10. If you have peptic or duodenal ulcers.
11. You have diabetes
12. You have a history of heart disease, irregular heart rhythm or angina.
13. You have an overactive thyroid gland

There have been reports of severe skin reactions associated with the administration of Ambroxol. If you develop a skin rash (including lesions of the mucous membranes such as mouth, throat, nose, eyes, genitals), stop using COSOME A EXPECTORANT and contact your doctor immediately.

In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

1. Cough suppressant (such as Codeine)
2. Steroid medicines (such as prednisolone).
3. Antidepressant medicines
4. Medicines called ‘xanthines’ (such as theophylline or aminophylline).
5. Medicines called ‘beta-blockers’ (such as atenolol or propranolol) including eye drops (such as timolol).
6. Water tablets (diuretics) such as furosemide (also known as frusemide).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

It is not recommended to consume Cosome A Expectorant during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Make sure to tell your Doctor if you are Pregnant or Breast feeding.

Driving and using machines

COSOME A EXPECTORANT has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

What is COSOME A EXPECTORANT and what is it used for?

This product is used for “Symptomatic relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis”. Patients suffering from wet productive and chest congestion associated with chronic respiratory conditions such as Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis can use this product only after consulting with a doctor. Terbutaline is used to prevent and treat chest tightness caused by asthma and chronic bronchitis. Terbutaline is in a class of medications called beta agonists. It works by relaxing and opening the airways, making it easier to breathe. Ambroxol, the active ingredient of Cosome A Expectorant, increases mucus secretion in airways, the formation of pulmonary surfactant (substance covering inner walls of alveoli) and stimulates cilia activity ensuring mucus transport. These effects result in more substantial liquefaction, better transport, and secretion of mucus (mucociliary clearance), which leads to expectoration facilitating and cough relief. Guaiphenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.

Composition- Cosome MSR tablets

Like all medicines, Cosome MSR tablet can cause side-effects in some individuals.

Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 patient) – drowsiness

Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 but less than 1 in 100 patient) - difficulty performing tasks, dizziness, headache, difficulty in co-ordination, nausea, dry mouth, fatigue

Rare (may affect more than 1 in 10000 but less than 1 in 1000 patient) – stomach upset

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data) - feeling unusually tired, unexpected bruising or bleeding and getting more infections (such as colds) than normal, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing. allergic reactions including skin rashes such as hives (which may be severe and include blistering or peeling of the skin) and itching, decreased appetite, confusion, excitation, irritability, nightmares, depression, nervousness, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, blurred vision, ringing or buzzing noise in ear, a fast or irregular heartbeat or an increased awareness of the heartbeat (palpitations), vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, indigestion, jaundice, urinary retention, muscular twitching, muscle weakness, chest tightness.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects gets serious or lasts longer than a few days: 
Stop taking the product and contact your doctor immediately if you notice:
Allergic reactions e.g. skin rashes, itching, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty in breathing.

Very rare cases of serious skin reactions have been reported. If a skin reaction occurs, stop use and seek medical help right away. 
You get infections or bruise more easily than usual. This could be because of a blood problem (such as agranulocytosis, neutropenia or thrombocytopenia). This side effect has only happened in a few people taking paracetamol.

Paracetamol may cause fixed dose eruption (red itchy patch or discoloured patch on skin).

What you need to know before you take Cosome MSR tablet? 
Do not take Cosome MSR tablet:

1. If you have severe liver disease (including alcoholic liver disease)
2. If you are taking any other products containing Paracetamol
3. If you are allergic to Paracetamol, Phenylephrine hydrochloride and Chlorpheniramine maleate or any other ingredient of tablet.
4. If you are taking any other products that contain any of the ingredients of Cosome MSR tablet
5. If you suffer from lung disease
6. If you have a phaeochromocytoma (rare tumour that affects your heart rate and blood pressure)
7. If you are being treated for a thyroid disorder
8. If you have narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
9. If you have high blood pressure or heart disease.
10. If you have prostate problems (enlarged prostate or difficulty with passing urine or increased frequency of urination)
11. If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease) known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
12. If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (used to treat depression and anxiety such as fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline)

Important info - cosomeMSR tablets

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using COSOME®AR about any health conditions you may have, including if you:

1. Have moderate or severe renal impairment (kidney problems) and in addition you are taking other medicines (see “Other medicines and COSOME®AR” below).
2. Have heart problems or a family history of heart problems.
3. Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
4. Are breastfeeding

Children 

COSOME®AR is not suitable for use by children under 12 years of age. 
Do not exceed the recommended dose. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

Other medicines and COSOME®AR 
Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription or any herbal medicines.

In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines:

1. Ketoconazole (an antifungal medicine)
2. Erythromycin (an antibiotic)
3. Rifampicin (an antibiotic)
4. Diltiazem (to treat angina)
5. Cyclosporine (to reduce the activity of your immune system, thus avoiding transplant rejection or reducing disease activity in autoimmune and allergic disorders, such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis or rheumatoid arthritis)
6. Ritonavir (to treat AIDS)

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility

There are no or limited amount of data from the use of Bilastine in pregnant women and during breast-feeding and on the effects on fertility.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines

It has been demonstrated that bilastine 20 mg does not affect the driving performance in adults. However, the response from each patient to the medicine may be different. Therefore, you should check how this medicine affects you, before driving or operating machinery.

If you take more COSOME®AR than you should 

If you (or anyone else) have taken too many COSOME®AR tablets, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital, even if there are no symptoms. Please remember to take this medicine pack with you.

Precautions - cosomeAR

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this webpage or as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor if you are not sure.

Do not take for more than 7 days in adults and 5 days in children.

Do not take more than the recommended dose

Dosage

For Adults and children over 12 years of age:

1. Take 1tablet Every 4-6 hours. Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hrs
2. Swallow the tablet whole with water
3. Wait at least 4-6 hours before taking another dose
4. Do not exceed the stated dose

Cosome MSR tablet is not recommended in children less than 12years old.

Cosome MSR tablet is for oral use only.

Cosome MSR tablet can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to drink a glass of water after administration and plenty of liquid during the day.

Contains Paracetamol. Talk to a doctor immediately if you take too much of this medicine, even if you feel well. Taking too much paracetamol can cause serious liver damage.

If you take more of this medicine than you may experience the following symptoms: nausea and vomiting, involuntary muscle contractions, slurred speech, irritability, restlessness, increased heart beats, hypertension, difficulty in voiding urine, dry mouth, increased thirst, confusion, somnolence, disturbances in consciousness, involuntary and rapid eye movements, facial flushing, coordination disorders, psychosis with visual hallucinations, and hyperexcitability. Other symptoms in case of massive overdose may be: coma, severe breathing problems, and convulsions.

If you swallow several of these tablets together at a time, or you think a child has swallowed any of these tablets, contact your doctor or hospital emergency department immediately.

Remember to carry with you any leftover tablets, the box and webpage, to the emergency healthcare provider as this will allow easier identification of the tablets.

If you forget to take Cosome MSR tablet dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What is Cosome MSR tablet and what is it used for?

The Cosome MSR tablet is a medicine which is used to offer symptomatic relief in influenza-like diseases including, common cold, dry coughs, congestion and related headache and body ache. What is COSOME AR and what is it used for?

COSOME®AR contains the active substance Bilastine (20 mg) which is an antihistamine. COSOME®AR is used to treat symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis-conjunctivitis (Seasonal and perennial) and Urticaria in adults.”
i.e. this medicine is used to treat the symptoms of Hay fever (sneezing, itchy, runny, blocked-up nose and red and watery eyes), other forms of allergic rhinitis and hives on skin.

How does COSOME®AR work? 
COSOME®AR is an antihistamine- it works by blocking action of histamine and relieves symptoms of allergy.

In allergic rhinitis and rhino-conjunctivitis & urticaria

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you have difficulty in breathing, dizziness, collapsing or losing consciousness, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, and/or swelling and redness of the skin, stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical advice straight away.

Common Side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): 
Drowsiness, Headache

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): 
Cold sores (oral herpes), increased appetite, anxiety, difficulty in sleeping, tiredness, dizziness, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), vertigo (a feeling of dizziness or spinning), irregular heartbeat, abnormal ECG heart tracing, dyspnoea (difficulty in breathing), dry or uncomfortable nose, belly pain, stomach pain, nausea (the feeling of being sick), diarrhoea, dry mouth, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach wall), itching, tiredness, thirst, fever, feeling of weakness, blood tests which show changes in the way the liver is working, blood tests which show changes in the way kidney is working, blood fats increased, increased weight
