YES TO POSHAN
Malnutrition is a complex public health problem with inter-generational repercussions. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, 16/22 states surveyed reported an increase in children < 5 years of age being underweight and severely wasted. 13 states recorded a surge in the % of stunted children < 5 years of age in comparison to the NFHS-4. Further, a large % of women in 15-49 age group were anaemic and had a low Body Mass Index (BMI). The urgent need to ensure adequate nutrition in women and children in India prompted the Government’s POSHAN Abhiyaan to reduce stunting, undernutrition and low birth weight in children and anaemia amongst women and children.

An estimated 250000 children stay in childcare institutions in India; only an estimated 4000 per year get adopted*.
