YES TO POSHAN
Malnutrition is a complex public health problem with intergenerational repercussions.
According to the National Family Health Survey-5 (NHFS-5), there was an increase in the prevalence of acute malnutrition in 16 out of 22 states and stunting in 13 out of 22 states among children < 5 years of age in comparison to NHFS-4.
High levels of malnutrition among children in India can be highly attributed to the poor nutrition of women before and during pregnancy. The urgent need to ensure adequate nutrition in women and children in India prompted the government’s Poshan Abhiyaan to reduce the incidence of stunting, undernutrition in children and anaemia amongst women and children.
